Become a Substitute Teacher

Substitute teaching can be a very rewarding job, if you are willing to put in the hard work and dedication needed to acquire the skills it takes to teach effectively. Substitute teachers have flexible hours and enjoy working with a diverse selection of students. The Franklin County School System has secured an online training course that will enable you to work from your own site to obtain the skills for classroom and behavioral management.

Steps to becoming a substitute teacher-applicant with High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma ($82.40/day)

  1. Complete the Basic Option A SubSkills Online Training Course (https://mylearning.stedi.org/shop/). (cost to applicant of approx. $39.95) with a satisfactory score of no less than 85%.
       
  2. Submit electronic application for Substitute Teacher in Employment Opportunities section.
       
  3. Someone from HR will contact the applicant upon the approval from the Director of Schools, to complete all paperwork with the Human Resource Department, present certificate of course completion with passing score, and submit to the required criminal history background check.

Steps to becoming a substitute teacher-applicant with Associate's Degree ($82.40/day) or

Bachelor's Degree ($103.00/day)

Submit electronic application for Substitute Teacher in Employment Opportunities Section and someone from HR will contact the applicant, upon the approval from the Director of Schools, to complete all paperwork with the Human Resource Department, present an official transcript showing the appropriate degree awarded, and submit to the required criminal history background check.

Tennessee Licensed Teacher-Active or Retired ($103.00/day)
Submit electronic application for Substitute Teacher in Employment Opportunities section and someone from HR will contact the applicant to schedule an appointment to complete paperwork and subsequent criminal history background check. 
Licensed Out of State Teachers-Active and Retired ($103.00/day)
Licensed Out of State Teachers should follow the same procedures above for applicants with a Bachelor's degree.
